Do I need to audition to join?
Can I join if I can't read music?
What experience does the Musical Director have?
Simon is an experienced music professional dedicated to providing a supportive and enriching experience. See ABOUT US for further details
Is there a fee to join the choir?
As with everything in life, there is a cost. I have tried to keep this as low as possible, and the current fee is £8 per rehearsal. There is no joining fee and no "stage fee" which some groups charge to perform
What does the fee cover?
For a nominal £8 fee you will receive the skill, musicianship and encouraging enthusiasm of the Musical Director, the pleasure of singing in a community group and all the benefits it brings. The fee also covers room hire, refreshements, licences, insurance, printing costs, backing tracks, pianists for concerts, venue hire for concerts.
I've never sung in a choir and feel nervous, will I be ok?
A lot of people haven't sung in choirs before and naturally there will be some apprehension. We aim to offer an inclusive, open and friendly welcome to everyone. It doesn't matter if you've never sung in a choir before, you will be welcomed warmly and after your first rehearsal you will come away feeling so much better and you will have made new friends!
Do I just turn up at the start time once I've joined?
Once you have joined Simply Singing, it is always best to arrive at least 10 minutes beofre the advertised start time. That way you can settle in, find a seat, make sure you have a copy of the words and are comfortable before the rehearsal starts.
What do I wear when I attend a rehearsal?
Anything you are comfortable in. It is often recommended that you wear loose fitting clothes (rather than tight fitting) so that you can move freely and breathe fully.
Are mobile phones allowed?
Mobile phones are practically a way of life these days. Almost everyone has one. All we ask at Simply Singing is that mobile phones are turned to silent during rehearsals. There's nothing more annoying that the constant bleeping or ringing of mobile phones when people are singing.
RECORDING THE REHEARSALS IS NOT ALLOWED - PLEASE DO NOT EITHER AUDIO OR VIDEO RECORD ANY REHEARSALS.
What sort if music will we be singing?
At Simply Singing we aim to cover music from all genres. From musicals to pop, from ballads to soul, from country to classical, from modern to ancient, from carols to rock - and anything inbetween.
I will be asking if anyone has any requests for the next term. Please remember some songs can be very challenging!!! So if you want to sing Bohemnian Rhapsody - we may have to wait until we have developed a little.
